“What we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD,” – Psalm 78:3b-4a (NIV)
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” – Ephesians 6:4 (NASB)
ANSWERING THE CALL TO PARTNER WITH PARENTS
In order to support our students in becoming more independent learners, East Richland Christian Schools has structured its elementary into two developmentally unique systems of learning. ERCS still believes it has a critical role in providing a Christ-centered educational environment by partnering with the home and the church to enhance and strengthen the foundation for learning and loving the Lord for students at every grade level.
BIBLICALLY INTEGRATED CURRICULUM
All subjects are biblically integrated to weave the Truth of God’s word into academic lessons. Because ERCS has a living curriculum which incorporates the knowledge of the teacher, the experience and background of the learner, and a wide variety of instructional tools, students are instilled with a love for learning God’s truth in the classroom. At the Upper Elementary Levels, core instruction is focused on the following:
- Reading Comprehension and more complex Language Arts
- Exploration of Scientific method in the Sciences
- Studying and learning from what has happened in the past in Social Studies
- Practical problem solving and developing advanced Math computations
- More concentrated, focused developmentally appropriate “Specials” in Art, Music, Physical Education, and Computer
STRUCTURED, ACTIVE SCHEDULE
Most of the Upper Elementary classes are separate fourth grade, fifth grade, or sixth grade classes. However depending upon annual enrollment and student needs there are some combined fifth and sixth grade classes. The Upper Elementary has Home rooms, but students do move to science or computer lab facilities according to a daily schedule. Recess is held two times per day outdoors, when weather permits.
