Grades 4-6
“What we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD.”
~Psalm 78:3-4
NURTURING A GROWING SPIRIT
In order to support our students in becoming more independent learners, East Richland Christian Schools has structured its elementary and middle school into two developmentally-unique systems of learning. Middle School continues to foster independent and critical thinking, but also goes beyond those limits to fully encompass growth towards young adulthood. Students are challenged spiritually and academically as they are guided and encouraged in their expanding maturity.
BIBLICALLY-INTEGRATED CURRICULUM
All subjects are biblically integrated to weave the Truth of God’s word into academic lessons. East Richland Christian has a living curriculum which incorporates the knowledge of the teacher, the experience and background of the learner, and a wide variety of instructional tools; in all ways, students are instilled with a love for learning God’s truth in the classroom. At the Middle School level, core instruction is focused on the following:
- Reading Comprehension and more complex Language Arts
- Increased technology integration into daily lessons
- Exploration of Scientific method in the Sciences with specific emphasis in STEM applications
- Studying and learning from what has happened in the past in Social Studies
- Practical problem solving and developing advanced Math computations
- More concentrated, focused developmentally-appropriate “Specials” in Art, Music, Physical Education, and Computers
STRUCTURED, ACTIVE SCHEDULE
Most of the Middle School classes are separated by grade level; however, depending upon annual enrollment and student needs, there are some combined fifth and sixth grade classes. At fifth and sixth grades, students begin to move to science or computer lab facilities according to a daily schedule. Recess is held for all Middle School students two times per day outdoors, when weather permits.
Depending on grade, students also have the opportunity to participate in other extracurricular activities and events, such as:
- Speech Meet
- Math Olympics
- Spelling Bee
- Science/Academic Fair
- Right to Read Week
- Athletics
- Drama/Theater
- Service Projects
